Exhibitions

Kiyosumi Teien (Kiyosumi Park) / Kiyosumishirakawa

Tsuta Salon / Minami Aoyama

I've never written about my job here, have I?
I'm a home-ware buyer: I'm dealing in items such as tableware and household goods.

Many trade fairs and exhibitions are held at this time of year.
These pictures above are from Japanese paper companies' exhibitions.
Although they are held in the humid rainy season, I don't mind visiting their exhibitions at all, because their spaces are so attractive and nice.

In this elegant atmosphere, I nearly forget my purpose of visiting, and enjoy tea and the view....

Mystery tour

My friends K&K took me on a  mystery tour last weekend as a birthday present.

The three of us create mystery tours for each other every year. When one of us has a birthday, the other two make a fun secret plan for her. In the past, we've been to museums, parks, live jazz concerts, seaside towns, nice restaurants and bars. The birthday girl knows nothing but the meeting place. Doesn't that sound like fun?

We met in Shibuya, and then took a train to Kotakemukaihara. There, we had lunch at a lovely small restaurant in a nursery school! Although it's in a nursery school, the restaurant isn't just for kids. They serve alcohol as well. We had huge roast pork sandwiches and a local microbrew. It was filling!

Next, we took a tram to Asukayama Park in Kita Ward. After visiting the paper museum and walking around the park, we headed to Meguro and had dinner. The young, female owner-chef did an excellent job. We enjoyed the meal.

Then...(it's not over yet!)

We went to Daikanyama and visited a big book shop called TSUTAYA.

However, it isn't just any book shop. It has a cafe area and a lounge.. We took a table in the lounge (of course!), and settled into some comfortable leather chairs.

Whew!

It was a lovely day. I enjoyed the tour a lot.

Thank you, K&K, for the lovely tour and for being my friends.

Hot and humid weekend

It was very hot and humid weekend! But thanks to the weather, I enjoyed the homemade rhubarb soda.

I found some beautiful yellow plums, so I made Umeboshi, (pickled plums) yesterday.
It has been my annual event in
rainy season.
I deeply washed the plums and carefully removed remaining stems. Then I put them in a jar with salt and leave them until it's time to dry under the sun.

Homemade umeboshi is much more delicious than the one bought in store, so it's worth the effort!

Carrot Soup

In a medium-sized pot, saute diced carrots and chopped onion with olive oil.
Pour in hot water, bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until carrots are soft. In a blender, puree the soup, return to pot and simmer for an additional 10 minutes. Season with salt and fresh orange juice.

Enjoy.
