The King and I

昨日は、キング・オブ・スウィング、ベニーグッドマンの誕生日。
ということで、一日彼の曲を聴いて過ごす。

あ、実は昨日は自分の誕生日でもあったりするんでした。
王様と私、誕生日おめでとう。

Yesterday was the birthday of  Benny Goodman, "The king of Swing".

So I was listening to his jazz tunes all day yesterday.

Actually, it was my birthday too.
Happy birthday to the King and me.

なぜ故に、今までこの存在を知らなかったのか・・・・？

つい先日、友人Kと仕事の後で待ち合わせ、フレンチビストロの「du Barry」へ。

この界隈には良く来るのに、既に２周年を迎えるというこのお店のことは知らず、初めての訪問。

美味しいものを食べたときは、「美味しい！」と言うけれど、

感動的に美味しいものを食べたときは、ただ黙ってニンマリとしてしまう。

この夜は何度もニンマリ。

地上の楽園を教えてくれたKに感謝。

How come I didn't know about this place before?

My friend K and I had a dinner at "du Barry",　french bistro, the other night.

They have just had their 2nd Anniversary at the beginning of this month.

I come this area quite often but I didn't know about this place before.

When I have a delicious meal, I say "It's delicious!", but when I have a heavenly delicious meal,

I just smirk.

This bistro made us smirk a lot.

Thanks to K who took me to this heaven on earth.

Tuna curry

今日はSが夕飯を作ってくれた。

Sが「今晩料理しようか？」と聴くとき、それは「今晩カレーを作ろうか？」を意味するほど

カレー好きのS.

以前私がSのために買ってきてあげた大きなツナ缶をカレーに使用。

実はSはツナも大好き。

よって、「ツナカレー」は、彼にとって天国。

もちろん私も美味しくいただきましたよ、ご馳走様。

S cooked dinner  for me today.

When S says "Shall I cook tonight?", that means "Shall I cook curry?".

He is a curry lover.

He used　big chunks of tuna in olive oil for today's curry.

I bought this canned tuna for S a while ago, because S loves tuna as well.

So, Tuna Curry. It's heaven to S !  

And  of course I enjoyed it very much as well. Thanks S.

Tokyo Sky Tree

今日は首が痛い・・・・っていうのはちょっと大袈裟だけれども。

昨日はスカイツリーのショッピング施設「ソラマチ」のプレオープンを拝見しに押上へ。

皆が皆、その「世界一高いタワー」を見上げている光景はちょっと愉快。

と言いつつ、私もついつい見上げてしまうのでした。

しかし、なにしろ高いので、かなり思いっきり首を後ろに倒さないと天辺まで見えず、

首が痛い・・・・。

その建築技術には感嘆するのだけれど、昭和生まれの私にとっては、

やっぱり東京タワーの方が親しみがあり、「東京のシンボル」なんでした。

年寄りっぽい?

I have a neck ache today.

Well, maybe it's a little bit exaggerated. 

I went to the pre-opening of Tokyo Sky Tree SORAMACHI ( 634m-high  free-standing broadcasting tower & it's neighboring shopping center) yesterday.

People were looking up at this "tallest tower in the world" all the time and so was I.

It's so high and you really have to bent your neck backward as hard as possible.

Although it's an amazing architectural style and technology, I, who was born in Showa era, still prefer 333m-high Tokyo Tower ( built in 1958) and feel that it's the symbol of Tokyo.

Do I sound old?

今日も良く晴れて、気持ちの良い日曜日に。
皆さん素敵な週末（そして母の日）を過ごされましたかな？

Lovely quiet Saturday.

ここのところ続いていた変な天気も一休み。
ようやく一日太陽が出たので、久しぶりのガーデニングなぞを。（ベランダだけど）

そして、ホウレン草のトルテリー二を入れたトマトスープをくつくつ煮込んで夕飯に。

特にこれといったイベントは無かったけれど、今はむしろそれが貴重。
ゆっくりと静かな、良い土曜日だった。


We've been having a weird weather for the past couple of weeks, but finally got some sunshine, so I did some gardening today. ( as I have said before, we only have a tiny balcony, but I still call it a "garden".) 


Then, I made "Spinach tortellini tomato soup" for dinner.


There was no big event, but it was a lovely quiet Saturday.
