Kotani

先週、約一年ぶりに神戸は三宮の「小たに」へ。

もう何年も長い間一緒に働いていた小谷が、仕事を辞めて
妹さんとブロカントのお店を始めたのが約２年前。
仕事で関西方面に行く機会があるとお店に寄らせてもらったり、
偶然お互いに買い付けで行っていたドイツで合流して夕飯を共にする機会があったりと、
なんだかあんまり彼女が職場を離れた感覚が無いような、
そんなお付き合いが続いている。

ご存知のとおり、日本には「かわいい」文化がはびこっていて、
私なんかはもう辟易してしまうのだけれども、たぶん小谷姉妹もそんな人達。

アルミやブリキが時を経て柔らかさや表情を持ち変化していく様が好きだという姉妹。
派手な看板も装飾も無いけれど、店に漂う凛とした空気は彼女達そのもの。

きっとお店自体も時を経て変化していくのだろうから、これからも時々寄らせてもらうのを
楽しみにしておりますよ。

I visited KOTANI last week for the first time in a year.

Kotani is the name of this lovely tiny shop in Kobe. It is also the name of my friend who used to work with me for a long long time.　She left our company and started her own "brocante" style shop with her sister a couple of years ago.

Even after she left our company, we still see each other on such occasions as my visit to Kansai or our coincidental buying trip to Germany.

As you might already know, people are making a fuss over the "KAWAII (cute)" culture in Japan but I don't like it at all.　I'm sure Kotani sisters don't like it either.

She and her sister say that they love aluminium and tinware, which become soft and rustic with the lapse of time. Even some scratches can give things charms.

No gorgeous sign nor decoration, but this savory, dignified and graceful atmosphere.This shop itself is a mirror of what the sisters are.

I will enjoy watching the shop changing with the lapse of time.
